World of Warcraft - Item Upgrade

Item upgrades allow players to increase the level of armor and weapons that can be equipped. This boosts the stats of the item and can also add buffs or rerolls to an affix.

Cost

When a player upgrades an item, they have to pay Gold for the upgrade. The cost to upgrade an item is based on the item's current status and type of upgrade. Upgrades to weapons are typically less expensive than upgrades to armor since weapons have less requirements. The amount of Gold required to upgrade an item increases when the item is upgraded to a higher level.

In addition an upgraded item might be able to provide extra buffs to the unit it is equipped with. These upgrades are able to boost the overall power of a group or individual unit, and may significantly impact the gameplay.

Items can be upgraded at any NPC who is an upgrader in the game. In general, these NPCs are located in major cities or questing locations. Players can also locate item upgraders when they visit dungeons with high-level bosses, or by chatting with NPCs in their garrisons of their faction.

The World of Warcraft item upgrade system lets players improve the quality of weapons, armor and trinkets. This process is similar to the gear reforging process in Mists of Pandaria or Warlords of Draenor. However instead of using currency, players have to visit an item upgrader to complete the process.

Upgrades can be costly, especially for armor and weapons. Depending on the upgrade track each step in level of the item could cost many Valorstones and crests. The cost are prohibitive for those who don't have the resources or are unwilling to grind.

Some upgraded items are only able to be rerolled if the original item was a Unique, Rare or Epic. Additionally, exceptional items can be rerolled, but the original stats are replaced with an uncapped bonus. Rerolling an item that is Rare or Epic item will produce an ordinary version, while doing the same with the Epic version will result in an elite version.

Upgraded items can come with additional adjustments that can boost their performance and boost their stats. These additional modifiers don't come with the upgrade cost. They can be acquired by questing, buying them on the Trading Post or from other players. Additionally, they can be earned through completing certain tasks in the game.
