The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention, and it leaves your floors spotless. Its price is surprisingly low and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

Make sure you regularly examine the brushes of your robot for hair tangled and large particles, and wash them when required. Certain models also automatically empty the dust bin on board and then deposit it in a larger bin at the base. This helps reduce the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums that we have tested. They have top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. As with other top iRobot models (including the top pick) they employ smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with Carpet Boost, a feature that boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in cleaning dog hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you're at work or school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance autonomous vacuum and mop utilizes sensor technology that can avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to offer more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and set up zones through the well-designed app. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to take off and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath furniture that is low and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot automatic vacuum and mop robot/mop which could clean an entire home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job cleaning a range of floors and rooms that had various flooring types, such as certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically fills up its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that looks much like a Roomba model than the boxy models of the competition. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has a perfect 10 in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an easy mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device that could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.

It's also a bit costly but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum, refills the water tank, and washes and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot vacuum with mop utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home based on how dirty these areas are.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose one with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your house via the app or voice controls. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would imagine from its price. It's a pro at vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a rotating motion which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It features a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction, as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute little eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it's more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and a small base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
